Northwest Richmond

To the Northwest of Richmond we find the counties of Goochland, Louisa, and Powhatan. Goochland County, to the northwest of Richmond, is home to over 20,000. The James River forms its southern border, running mostly along Highway 6. Goochland has an active local government and school system. Louisa County, with its 30,000+ residents, is one of the fastest-growing areas in Virginia. At least fifteen new housing developments have popped up in just the past five years. The county also holds the very popular Lake Anna (and nearby Jerdone Castle) and the Green Springs Historic District. The County of Powhatan, less than 30 miles west of Richmond, is home to nearly 30,000. Two of its borders are formed by rivers: the James River to the north and the Appomattox River to the south. While the tobacco industry is losing jobs in the area, there are new jobs being created in manufacturing as well as in consumer fields.
